Utorrent WebUI Local Torrent Server Setup

Are you using Utorrent and are looking to be able to manage your local torrent downloads and uploads without actually being at that computer. What I am talking about is the Utorrent WebUI feature that with allow you to access your torrent server, using another pc on your local network. With the right firewall settings you can even access your Utorrent torrent server away from home. If you don’t already have Utorrent, you can download it by click on the link of going to Utorrent.com/downloads.

Once you have Utorrent downloaded and installed, you will then need to properly forward a port on you router to allow for faster downloads and uploads. After you have forwarded the correct port number, you will then need to enable the WebUI feature. The Utorrent WebUI option can be located by clicking:
  • Options
  • Preferences
  • Web UI
Once the WebUI screen opens you will then need to set a user name and password. After you setup your login information put a check next to Alternative Listening Port (default is the connection port}:. You can then type in a different port number if you choose to, but I will be leaving mine at the default port number 8080.

After you have set the port number for the Utorrent Web UI, you will then need to find out what the ip address is on the torrent server. To find out what the ip address is on the torrent server simply open up the command prompt application and type ipconfig. As you can see my ip address on my torrent server is 10.0.0.100.

Once you know what your port number is on you Utorrent program and what the ip address is on your torrent server. All you have to do now is open a web browser and put the two together. Since my port number is 8080, and my ip address is 10.0.0.100 for this tutorial. I would type http://10.0.0.100:8080/gui/ into the web browser URL address bar. If everything goes well the login box should have popped up, simply login using the user information you setup earlier.

If you want to access you torrent server while you are away from home, all you have to do is forward the port that you set for the WebUI. Since I set 8080 for port number, I would forward that port within my router towards my torrent server, which is 10.0.0.100. Then you will then need to find out what is the ip address that you ISP provides you with. You can usually find out what this ip address, somewhere within your router.

Once you know what you ip address that your ISP provides you with, you should now be able to access your torrent server away from home. For example if my ISP gave me the ip address of 99.156.23.78. I would type the following into my web browser http://99.156.23.78:8080/gui/.
