Remux Mkv to Mp4 with Mkv2Vob

Tversity and other media servers such as Mediatomb, and Fuppes don’t have really good support for the Matroska media container.  The mkv file format can cause  choppy video, screen freezing, and unable to rewind or fast forward your video.  So what you need to do is convert your mkv files to mp4, so you will be able to eliminate this problem on your Xbox 360 or Ps3 media client.  The program that I use is called Mkv2Vob, and it works great at transcoding and demuxing mkv files to mp4 file format.

The first that that you must do is download Mkv2Vob and then install it.  Once Mkv2Vob installs, go and click on the Configuration tab. Inside the configuration tab, change the output file extension to mp4 then change the transcoding codec to x264.  Finally make sure that you audio setting are correct for your television and surround sound system.  I had to click “always trans code DTS”.

Once you have made your setting inside the configuration tab, click over on add file tab.  I recommend on adding one file at a time, since sometimes mkv2vob has to trans code the mkv file and the process can take a while.   After you add the file, click on the Add File button.  Once the file has been converted, just copy and paste it into your media server folder, then update your database so your Xbox 360 or Ps3 will recognize the new mp4 file.
